The 2024 Over 75s Merit was won by Chris Hall of Hollyfields. Played at Walmley bowls club which was in superb condition, Chris beat Alan Wincott of the Greville in the semi final 21-17. Chris was trailing 15-10 when a sudden downpour stopped the game for a while and Chris raised his game to reach the final. Dave Calthorpe of NIFO won the other semi final with a great performance to beat John Welham of Hamstead 21-7. Unfortunately for Dave he couldn't continue that form in the final and Chris bowled very well to win the final 21-14. Congratulations Chris and a big thank you to Walmley for their hospitality. |
This year's pairs champions are Steve Green and Mark Galvin of Bradford Arms. After a very close game and last bowl win of 21-20 in the quarter final against Chris Hall and Graham Bowden of Hollyfields, the Bradford pair settled down and bowled consistently well and got through to the final to play Paul Johnson and Gary Smith of Water Orton. Paul and Gary had played very well and with Paul's experience to find a tricky mark across a ridge in the centre of the green, they made it to the final. Now Steve and Mark were getting better end after end and broke away to become champions with a 21- 9 win. Thanks to Erdington Cons for the use of their green and for their hospitality. |
The first ever EBOS ladies merit was won by Joan Ingram of Boldmere St. Michaels. It was a great morning at Hollyfields, the green was superb and there was a great atmosphere around the place. The 8 finalists all played well . There were some close games and some easier won games, and it was Joan and Dot Greenwood of Coleshill Social who made it to the final. Both ladies played brilliantly all through the game and it was totally unpredictable who would win. It went to the last end and where Dot was beating Joan's woods consistently, this time she just went past the jack to leave Joan the winning shot. 21-20 to Joan and a fantastic morning thoroughly enjoyed by everybody. Thanks to Hollyfields and the EBOS committee members who helped with measuring and refereeing. |
The 2024 Individual Merit Champion is Paul Johnson of Water Orton. Played on the excellent green at the Raven after some very tight quarter final matches , the semi finals saw Roy Woolley of the Greville against Tony Freeth of the Brookhill. A very close exciting game was just won 21 20 by Roy. In the other semi final Paul faced Steve Green of Bradford Arms and Paul was very consistent on a very tricky mark to get to the final 21 16. So in the final Roy started well and led 7-2, then Paul got on the same mark again and played superbly and romped into a massive 18 -7 lead. The game finished 21-12 to Paul to take this year's title. Well done Paul and thanks to Tony Westwood and the Raven for their hospitality. |

This year's Individual Merit has only 27 entries, so the qualifying round will be played on just 2 greens with 4 qualifiers from each green to play in the final. The greens chosen are Boldmere St Michaels and Coleshill Social. Both clubs have afternoon fixtures, therefore the Merits will start at 10am. Please arrive no later than 9.50am for the draw to be made for a prompt start. |
The sample of the new EBOS shirt has arrived and a photo of it modelled by Tony Freeth is on the front page of our website...Tony said that the quality is excellent and these shirts are available at £27... Other clothing merchandise is also available from the company who supplied the shirts , all with the EBOS logo on. Text 07726 165108 to order with name and size. |
Unfortunately Sutton Park are not able to run a 2nd team this year and have had to pull out of division 6. All of their fixtures have now become byes. |
Tony Freeth, our representative team manager, has been looking into getting some polo shirts with the EBOS logo/badge on. He would like as many of the representative team players to wear them as the team would look really impressive if most or all wore the same outfit. The shirts are white polo with black panels down the side and have the EBOS logo at the top. The quality of the shirts is excellent and the cost is £27. The minimum order is 15, the EBOS committee are buying them so we now are up to about 9 to order. If anyone is interested ,whether in the representative team or not please text me on 07726 165108 to let me know the size that you want. This needs to be done as soon as possible to get up to the minimum of 15 and in time for the first match in June. Thank you Pete. |
The new 2024 season is soon to start and the fixtures have been completed and can be found on the Bowlsresults website. Also the new 3 home 3 away Cup match draw is done and can be found on Bowlsresults too. To find this click on Competition results and open A Cup or B Cup. |
At the Presentation/Rules Revision meeting on 20th November at Goldieslie, the committee have 3 items for discussion that if are favourable with the delegates could be possible proposals at the February AGM for the 2024 season. 1, Introduction of a ladies merit. 2, Pairs final to consist of 8 pairs instead of 4. 3, All cup matches to be played on a 3 home/ 3 away basis. |
EBOS 2023 OVER 75s MERIT FINAL The finals day of the Over 75s merit was played at Ward End Social on a green that was in very good condition and despite overnight rain was running quite quickly. The first semi final was Maurice Haycock of NIFO against Alan Wincott of the Greville. Maurice was in great form and bowled exceptionally well and made it to the final with a 21-7 win. The 2nd semi final saw Chris Hall of Hollyfields take an early lead against Brian Yourell of Moor Lane. Chris was continually improving his lead , but then Brian started clawing his way back and looked as though he could take the game really close. Then with Brian holding 2 good bowls on a long mark , Chris found a winning shot and then went on again to win 21-16. The final was nip and tuck all the way through the game, both players trying the marks they were successful on in the semis. It was always looking like it would be a close finish and at 19 across Chris lead out and with 3 bowls sent it was difficult to see who was counting, then Maurice came in with the winner and just touched the jack towards his other bowl also to count 2 and take the title 21-19. It was a great final with superb bowling . Well done to Maurice and thank you to Fred Tovey and Ward End Social for making us very welcome. ebos2023 |

TREBLE COMPLETED !!!! The East Birmingham Over 60s Representative team finished this season's fixtures with an outstanding performance against the very strong Dudley and District League. This fixture has had disasterous results in the past and could be the first time we have ever beaten them. BUT WHAT A WIN. At Banbury we had 8 winners and a convincing 50 shot win. Amazingly away at Langley we had a fantastic 11 winners and managed a 3 figure win of exactly 100 shots. Thanks to every person involved in all 3 matches this year and to our captains Tony Freeth and Chris Hall for their very hard work to enable us to get these great results. Once again thank you to Banbury Bowling Club for the use of their green and another superb buffet. |

2023 EBOS PAIRS MERIT The finals of the Pairs Merit were played on a very damp Monday morning at Erdington Conservative Club. A lot of overnight rain stopped just in time for the green to be prepared and play was possible. The first Semi final saw Peter Graham and Mike Jenkins of Boldmere St. Miichaels take a massive 11-0 lead against Moor Lanes Brian Yourell and Paul Smith. This lead went to 16-4 before Brian and Paul staged a big comeback. At 20-15 down the Laners lay 4 on in the corners, but Peter found a great bowl to pick the jack up for game. Coleshill Social pair of Bob Jones and Dave Morris also took an early lead of 7-1 in the other Semi final. Then Tony Freeth and Tony Aubury of the Brookhill picked up the weight of the green and went to 18-7 up before eventually winning to 12. So the 2022 winners from the Brookhill were in the final again looking to retain their title. They continued to play very tight and consistently and it proved too much for Peter and Mike. The 2 Tonys won 21-6 and deservedly won the pairs merit again. Thanks to ERDINGTON CONS for the use of the green. |

After our win against SW BIRMINGHAM OVER 60S we played HEART OF ENGLAND and were again victorious. The away leg was played on the The Hart where we had a great result to hold them to just a 22 shot loss. The home leg was played on the excellent Banbury green and with 9 winners we managed a big 63 shot win. So overall a superb win of 41 shots. THANKS TO ALL THE PLAYERS AND TO OUR HOME LEG HOSTS BANBURY . THE GREEN AND SURROUNDS WERE IMACULATE AND THE FOOD AND HOSPITALITY IN THE CLUB WAS WONDERFUL. Big game now in August v. EBOS INDIVIDUAL MERIT FINAL 2023 AT HOLLYFIELDS The final of the 2023 Individual merit was held at Hollyfields and was won by Tony Freeth of the Brookhill Bowling Club. It was a very strong line up and there was some excellent bowling all morning. In the semi final Tony had to work very hard to beat Rick Green who had taken a big lead, but eventually Tony got ahead and won 21-16. The other semi final was an all Bradford clash and Bill Hackett bowled really well to beat Dave Nicholls 21-8. The final saw Tony play his best game and managed to take the title with a 21-9 win against Bill. Congratulations to Tony Freeth.....2023 Individual Merit Champion. Thanks of course also to Hollyfields for the use of the excellent green and facilities. |

I can confirm that the 2023 season league tables and fixtures are complete and are now online on the bowlsresults Website. Now that there are 71 teams and all but division 6 have 12 teams in a division....some clubs will be surprised to see that they have been promoted. Positions have been worked out thoroughly and I wish every team the best of luck for this coming season. Pete |

This year's over 75s Merit Final was held at Boldmere St Michaels on a green that was in great condition and had been watered as needed to be during this dry spell, so was a little holding on the day. The semi finals were both close games with good bowling . Alan Wincott of the Greville gave Bill Hackett ( Bradford Arms) a tough game but Bill went into the final with a 21-18 win. In the other semi-final, Dave Calthorpe of NIFO managed to get home with a good display against a battling Robert Crook from Streetly Meths, 21-15. So Dave who had won this trophy on the last 2 occasions was hoping for a hatrick of wins and bowled superbly with perfect weight to take a massive 17-6 lead...Bill then won the jack and changed the length completely, bowling almost full corners over the crown. This proved to be successful as he pulled back to just lead, but Dave fought back again and the game went down to the last end and Bill Hackett took the title with a 21-20 win. A thrilling game for the spectators to enjoy....well played to all of the players and congratulations to Bill Hackett. Mr Ken Rose of NIFO who again generously sponsored this competition attended and presented all 4 finalists with prize money. Thank you Ken. Peter Evans Match Secretary |
Well today was the Doubles Merit Final on an excellently prepared and very challenging Hollyfields bowling green. The two semi finals were very different, Tony Aubury & Tony Freeth were always in front against Robert Crook & Frank Benton winning 21-12. The other game saw Brookhill's husband and wife pairing of John & Meryl Hutt against Peter Drake & Mike Jenkins. The Mikes pair took a good early lead, but the Brookhill pair fought back to win 21-19. So it was an all Brookhill final with great bowling by all four bowlers with additional entertainment of Banger !! It went to the wire with Tony Aubury & Tony Freeth getting home 21-16. Thank you Chris Hall and Hollyfields BC for today. Well done to all of the bowlers who entered. You are all winners in my book. Mick Collins ...Chairman |
It was a great day at Walmley today for the Singles Merit Final, the green was in great condition and with the hot weather, it was flying. Four good quarter finals followed by two excellent semi finals, where Dave Smith bowling a great bottom edge mark got the better of Brian Yourell and Peter Evans traded shot for shot with Ken Podmore to get home 21-16. So could it get better...in a word YES. Dave and Peter traded shot for shot, no quarter asked or given, the lead changing hands until Peter finally got home 21-19. Great game....Special thanks to Walmley for making it possible. Mick Collins ...Chairman. |

Just a reminder that it is important that the result sheet is fully completed with players both names and registration numbers and then checked and signed by both Captains. There have been a few issues of difficulties to enter the result onto the website. This is a great facility for us all and generally working well for our first season using it. Thanks Pete |
Sutton Park B have sadly had to drop out of this season's Division 4. They have not been able to field a full team for a few weeks and it will be an ongoing problem for them. Therefore all their matches will become byes for their original opposition and previous results of matches played will be deleted. They have full intention to resume again next season and will be welcomed to return, rejoining in the lowest division. |

In the event of a tie (aggregate scores level), the Captains will each select THREE bowlers from the original six to play again in three games of 7 shots up. The order of play/opponent shall be decided by draw. The Captains shall toss a coin, the winner to have first cast of the jack in games 1 and 3. Each of the three extra games will be worth one point. The winners will be the team which gains two or more points. The extra games shall be played immediately following the drawn match, on the date allocated in the league programme. |
Well ladies and gentlemen it's finally here, the 2022 bowling season, and it welcomes us with typical English bowling weather. Remember last year as we battled to make our league season a success with all the Covid issues we faced and defeated, the weather smiled on us, let's hope it's not payback time this year. If it is, I know it's another battle that this great group of clubs will win. As you are all aware, we have a full league program plus cups, merits and 3 confirmed representative games this season. Well done to Peter Evans and our technical guru Geoff Hunt for producing all the information on our new updated website, which makes reporting match results so much easier for all our team captains. I would like to thanks all of the committee members for their continual hard work in making EBOS a league to be proud of. Remember, you the clubs, drive the league forward with your hard work and effort. Your committee's role is to help steer it into another successful stage of it's development. And finally, all the best to you all for 2022. Let's get bowling! Mick Collins |
Can all clubs please check their registration list. It is suggested that you register all of your over 60 players. There is only a charge for the players used so it is less likely to incur a fine for an unregistered player if all are registered. Late or new registrations must be forwarded to me by 9am on the day of the match. Thank you Peter |
Welcome back all bowlers, wishing you a successful season. This season there are 2 changes 1, Introduction of an additional point per individual winner in league matches. 2, Self online entry of match results from the start. Match results sheets will still be needed to be completed and signed by both captains and kept for your own records. It is important that both forename and surname are entered on the sheet, for the reason that online entry will be easier if both names are recognisable. Online entry will be made by the the home team and checked by the away team. If correct, by pressing the save result tab, it will confirm the entry is accepted by both teams. The point per winner will be added automatically on the entry of the result and will be shown in the the league table immediately. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any problems... email: results@ebosbowls.co.uk or call me on 07726165108. Peter Evans Match secretary |
